SISVEL Responds to NGMN RFI for LTE Patent Pool Administrator

Alexandria, VA, August 31, 2009

SISVEL today announced its decision to respond to the Request for Information (RFI) that the Board of the NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Networks) Alliance issued on August 17, 2009 to facilitate the selection of an LTE (Long Term Evolution) patent pool administrator by parties owning patents essential to the LTE standard. In May, SISVEL issued a call for patents and patent applications essential to the LTE standard, in an effort to support the creation of a joint licensing program to make LTE technology accessible to all users on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms and conditions.

“We welcome the decision of the Board of the NGMN to issue an RFI on LTE patent pool administration. This RFI will greatly enhance the transparency of the selection process for an LTE patent pool administrator since it will offer an opportunity for the LTE stakeholders to compare the services, capabilities, and vision of each prospective patent pool administrator on how to manage an LTE patent pool,” said General Richard I. Neal, President of SISVEL US.

“At SISVEL we have long believed that a transparent selection process without undue pressure or conflict of interest and a merit based appointment of the pool administrator will confer immediate credibility on an LTE patent pool. We view NGMN’s RFI as a very positive step toward allowing the LTE stakeholders to select the best possible LTE patent pool administrator. With this in mind, SISVEL has responded to NGMN’s request,” Gen. Neal said.
